Red, White & Bust - mega central Ohio fireworks show canceled over coronavirus
sg飞艇appRed, White & Boom has canceled the traditional Downtown Columbus celebration this year because of the COVID-19 outbreak, it was announced Thursday.
The event usually occurs July 3 and draws the biggest crowd in the city every year with an estimated 450,000 spectators crowding into Downtown.
sg飞艇appIt is considered the Midwest’s largest fireworks show. There is also a parade and scores of concession stands that line the Scioto Mile in the days before the fireworks display.
“This has always been such a spectacular annual event for our city,” said Austin Slattery, a Red, White & Boom board member and senior vice president for Encova Insurance, which is one of the co-sponsors.
sg飞艇app“We are disappointed we can’t put this show on in person. As this decision was difficult, we know it was the right one to help ensure the health of central Ohioans,” Slattery said.
As an alternative, there will be a four-day television event that will air from Wednesday July 1 through Saturday July 4.
On the first night, there will be stories featuring local veterans inducted into Ford Oval of Honor.
Throughout all four nights there will be video shown of past parades and fireworks displays.
“With 39 years of archived video and stories, we promise a fascinating and exciting look at Red, White & Boom! over the years that will end with a blast,” said Ken Freedman, vice president and general manager of NBC4 (WCMH-TV), which is also a co-sponsor.
