Miss Ohio program postponed until June 2021 after Miss America decision
MANSFIELD - The Miss America Organization announced Friday that the Miss America 2021 Competition, previously scheduled for December, is being delayed to next year due to the nation-wide impact of COVID-19.
"For the safety, health and welfare of the enormous community necessary to make the Miss America competition possible, including participants, volunteers, organizers and fans, the Miss America Board of Directors has unanimously voted in favor of postponing the Miss America 2021 Competition and has advised the 51 qualifying competitions across the country to do so as well," the announcement said.
sg飞艇appSo the Miss Ohio Scholarship Program scheduled for this summer has been postponed until June 2021.
Steven Oliveri, executive director of the Miss Ohio Scholarship Program, said Friday the Miss Ohio program, traditionally held in June, and which was recently moved to August at Ashland High School, will be back in Mansfield in June 2021.
sg飞艇appOliveri said the Miss Ohio board had a discussion Thursday night and Miss Ohio contestants were given the news Friday that the Miss America Scholarship Program was delayed from December 2020 to for fourth quarter of 2021.
"We're all devastated it will not be held this year," he said. "And we're so appreciative of our sponsors and volunteers. But we're looking to come back in June 2021 at the Renaissance Theatre."
Oliveri said the organization will reach out to sponsors on social media and there will be more details to come.
Changes were made in April for the Ohio program because of the concerns and fears that the already scheduled June 12-20 Miss Ohio week in Mansfield would be too soon, due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, Oliveri said earlier.
sg飞艇appOliveri said the Miss Ohio Scholarship Program and Miss Ohio Outstanding Teen both will be in June 2021 at the Renaissance Theatre.
"We have to contact the Renaissance and get on their calendar," Oliveri said.
Currently there are 24 Miss Ohio contestants and 14 Miss Ohio's Outstanding Teen contestants registered.
